Police believe the 7-year-old boy who was killed March 20, 2016, in his Englewood home accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun as he played with an older brother. Devon Lofton, a first-grader, died at Comer Children’s Hospital about a half-hour after he was rushed there from his home in the 6700 block of South Aberdeen Street.
On July 6, 2016, 4-year-old boy was shot in the back about 5:45 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Morgan Street in Englewood. He was taken by family to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital in serious condition…. I grew up in this neighborhood….My son is 4… This could be my story. We have to educate our youth..This cannot be their reality.
On September 10, the day of the shooting, Shaniqua Hawkins went to pick up her son from the school at approximately 5:00 p.m. but he was no where to be found. He was reported missing two hours later and after deputies searched nearby neighborhoods, he was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a bathroom stall inside of the school.—Does your child really know the devastating affect that using a gun can have?
